Cannonau, drinkable any time
The vineyard is a place replete with poetry and existential mystery. Simple things unfold before our eyes, but however obvious, there’s something life-giving behind each apparently everyday event. In the words of Sebastiano Satta, the winemaking process is also a “birth shrouded in mystery”, and when the must ferments “in the night […], the children venture down, half-dressed, into the darkness of the cellar, and remain there for hours listening to that song that will perhaps accompany them throughout their lifetime”. It comes naturally to associated the cyclical nature of life with the Mother Goddess. In Alghero, the Domus de Janas caves, known as the Fairy Houses, are a testament to the worship of divinities linked to the earth and fertility that is typical of Sardinia. These little caves were home to tiny mythical creatures who tirelessly spun splendid fabrics on their beautiful golden looms, all the while singing sweet melodies.
